Civil society, decarbonisation of the energy system and adaptation to climate change

10/12/2019Madrid, Spain

The acciona.org Foundation participated in the event "Civil society, decarbonisation of the energy system and adaptation to climate change" held by the Spain Institute for the Diversification and Saving of Energy -so called IDAE- on December 10, 2019 at the EU pavillion of the COP25-Chile in Madrid (Spain). The participants discussed the importance of promoting the idea in the society of playing a prominent role in the energy transition.

Julio Eisman, representing acciona.org, presented our development approach by explaining the need of not leaving the population at the base of the pyramid behind in this idea: there are about 900 million people around the world without access to the electricity basic service -the majority of them living in poverty or extreme poverty conditions in environmentally sensitive areas- to whom the renewable energy may offer an affordable, reliable and sustainable access to electricity.

Belén Gallego (ATA Insights) chaired this dialogue that had the participation of Hugo Lucas (IDAE), Sara Pizzinato (Spanish Foundation for Renewable Energy), Vladimir Arana (Solidarity Water Europe) and José Etcheverry (International Renewable Energy Academy), together with Julio Eisman.
